Ashley Walker Named Third-Team All-American by the Associated Press
March 31, 2009
Senior forward Ashley Walker was named to the Associated Press All-American third-team in post season honors released on Tuesday. The AP All-American team was voted on prior to the NCAA Tournament and is the first All-American list to be released for the 2008-09 season.
Walker, who finished her Cal career on Sunday as the second leading scorer and top rebounder in program history, earned her first Associated Press All-American nod after twice earning post season AP All-American honorable mentions (2008 and 2007). She was a Sports Illustrated second-team All-American in 2008 and a 2008-09 pre-season Sporting News All-American.
Walker, a 2009 All-Pac-10 first-team honoree, led the conference in scoring this season, averaging 19.8 points per game. She tied her career high with a 32-point performance against No. 24 Virginia to propel the Bears to their first-ever NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance.
Walker is a finalist for several national player of the year awards and under consideration for other All-American honors that will be released within the next few weeks.
