Huskies Roll Into Lady Gator Invite
April 1, 2009
GAINSVILLE, Fla. -- Every indication suggests that the young University of Washington women's golf team will continue to build from its solid play thus far. The Huskies travel to Florida for the Lady Gator Invitational, which begins Monday, at the Par 70, 5,954-yard Mark Bostic Golf Course on the campus of the University of Florida.
Coach Mary Lou Mulflur's lineup for the two-day, 54-hole event, which begins at 8 a.m., is sophomore Anya Alvarez, junior Molly Aronsson, sophomore Karinn Dickinson, junior Christina Yoon and freshman Sadena Parks. The Huskies have been getting stronger as the spring season progresses with a pair of fourth-place team finishes at the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational, and the BYU Dixie Classic. In both tournaments, Alvarez has led the Huskies, recording a third place finish in Las Vegas, and an 11th place finish in Utah. She has been the Huskies' front runner with three top-10 finishes in six tournaments during the 2008-09 season.
The Huskies will face a formidable field at the Gator Invitational, starting with a trio of teams ranked in Golfweek's top 10. Auburn (No. 6), Alabama (No. 7) and Duke (10) come into the tournament as the only teams inside the top 25, but there are a number of teams hovering just outside those rankings, including the Dawgs at No. 43. Rounding out the rest of the competition in BYU, Campbell, Coastal Carolina, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Furman, Georgetown, Georgia State, Northwestern and South Florida.
Live scoring for the event will be available at golfstat.com.
