No. 12 California Falls at Oregon

The No. 12 California Golden Bears (25-10, 2-2 Pac-10) team dropped the first game of their three-game weekend road trip through the state of Oregon, falling 7-0 to the Oregon Ducks (12-20, 2-4 Pac-10).
The Bears fell behind in the second inning on a two-out, two-run homer. The Ducks expanded their lead in the fifth inning, plating four of the five runs in the inning on a grand slam off junior reliever Marissa Drewrey, putting them up 7-0.
The Bears scattered three hits in the game. Junior Vernae Sevilla singled to center in the fifth, sophomore Sanoe Kekahuna singled to right in the sixth, and freshman Jamia Reed doubled in the seventh, but the Bears failed to plate a run for only the second time this season.
Sophomore Valerie Arioto took the loss for the Bears, falling to 10-2 on the season. Arioto was charged with five runs, all earned, on two hits in 3.1 innings. She struck out one, walking four. Drewrey pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits, striking out two and walking two.
The Bears head to Corvallis, taking on the Oregon State Beavers (16-17, 1-4 Pac-10) Saturday, April 4, at 1 p.m. The Bears will finish off the Oregon trip Sunday in a 12 noon game against the Beavers.
