Spring Game Activities Slated For April 25
April 3, 2009
SEATTLE - With the Washington football program's annual Spring Game a little more than three weeks away, the Husky athletic department is busy making plans for a series of events that will make the event more than just a game.
The annual game is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. in Husky Stadium. While new coach Steve Sarkisian has not determined the game's format, he does promise to make it 'as much of a game as our personnel will allow.' It will be broadcast live on KJR 950 AM and will feature live online coverage on GoHuskies.com.
The athletic department will begin the day at 10 a.m. with a surplus sale of items it has accumulated over the last couple of years. Among the inventory available for purchase will be game-worn uniforms, new and gently used athletic shoes and cleats and various sports-related pieces of equipment.
At 11 a.m., the Big 'W' Club will have a special tailgate for its membership and their families near the climbing rock in the E-12 parking lot on the South side of the stadium. More than 150 former athletes are expected to attend. Former athletes are encouraged to contact the Big 'W' Club at (206) 543-3013 for more information.
For fans still deciding on football season tickets, the Husky Ticket Office will conduct an 'Open House' to answer questions, provide tours and provide the opportunity to see which seats in the stadium are available for sale. Contact the ticket office at (206) 543-2200 for more information.
In past years, the department has conducted the 'Husky Football Experience,' a youth clinic on the Husky Stadium turf prior to the spring game. This year, a special 'Husky Kid Zone' will be open on the East Practice Field - adjacent to the stadium - with youth-related activities. Unlike years' past, no RSVP is required to attend. In the event there is inclement weather, the Kid Zone will be moved into the Dempsey Indoor.
During the game and at halftime, the Husky Band will perform and the Husky Team Shop will be available to provide officially licensed merchandise for sale. The University of Washington Alumni Association (UWAA) will also be at the game with special member appreciation activities.
After the game, the new coaching staff and every player will be available to meet with fans on the Husky Stadium field.
In a change from past years, the annual 'Spring Fling' weekend, which encompasses a series of special promotions around a number of UW spring home sporting events, has been moved to Saturday, May 2. On that day, fans can receive free admission to all UW athletic events.
May 2 will begin with the 10 a.m. Windermere Cup, a traditional Opening Day regatta featuring some of the best rowing teams from around the world competing against the Huskies. At 2 p.m., the Husky baseball team hosts USC, while at 3 p.m. the UW softball team hosts rival Oregon. Throughout the day, the Huskies will host its annual track & field dual meet against rival Washington State.
