WSU Falls to No. 7 USC, 7-0

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team fell to No. 7 USC, 7-0, Friday, at the Simmelink Tennis Courts at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse.
The Cougars fell behind early as USC earned the opening doubles point taking the early lead.
At No. 1 doubles, Ekaterina Kamendova and Aleksandra Cekic competed together for the eighth time this year. The WSU tandem fell to, 5-3, on the season, losing to the Trojan's Amanda Fink and Gabriela Nicilescu, 8-3.
In singles play, Fournier put on show at the No. 3 slot making No. 68 Gabriela Niculescu fight for a three-set victory. After falling in the first-set, Fournier battled back to tie the match at one set apiece after winning a second-set tiebreak. USC's Niculescu was able to rally past the surging freshman in the third-set to earn the victory, 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-4.
At the No. 4 slot, Ioana Oprea battled the Torjan's Romas. The WSU freshman fell to the 64th-ranked Romas, 6-0, 6-1. At the No. 2 position, Cekic suffered a loss to No. 26 Fink, 6-2, 6-1. Kamendova fell to the 33rd-ranked Sarah Fansler at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-4.
The Cougars will return to the court Saturday April 3, to take on UCLA.
