No. 12 California Plates 12 in Victory at Oregon State

The California Golden Bears (26-11, 2-4 PAC-10) got their offense going in their first at-bat, a leadoff home run by sophomore Valerie Arioto, and kept it going as they defeated the Oregon State Beavers 12-3 in six innings Sunday afternoon in Corvallis. junior Taylor Kelly went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in.
After Arioto's solo shot to center field, the Beavers tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the first. Cal scored four runs in the top of the second to take control of the contest. After freshman Elia Reid reached on an error, freshman Jamia Reid, Taylor Kelly, and sophomore Sati Houston stroked back-to-back-to-back singles to fuel the rally, with all four coming around to score.
After Oregon State got a run back in the bottom of the second, the Bears increased their lead to 8-2 in the fourth inning. Sophomore Kekahuna drove in a pair of runs on a single to center field.
The Bears put an exclamation point on the game in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded an just one out, Jamia Reid singled down the right field line to drive in two runs. Taylor Kelly, the eighth batter of the inning, singled to center field to plate two more before Oregon State finally escaped the inning after the team had batted around.
The 12 runs scored by the Bears was the most in a game this season since their 15-1 victory over Liberty in the season-opener. The Bears had 11 hits in the game, ten singles and the home run by Arioto. The home run was the seventh of the season for Arioto.
Junior Marissa Drewrey was credited with the complete-game victory, improving to 16-8 on the season. She allowed three earned runs on 10 hits, striking out six, and walking three.
The Bears will play a Thursday evening game at Stanford on April 9 before returning to Levine-Fricke Field for a pair of home games against the Cardinal. The two teams will play Friday, April 10 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m.
