San Diego Crew Classic Comes To A Close For Cardinal Boats

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Both the men's and women's lightweight crews completed competition at the San Diego Crew Classic today, coming up short in their respective finals.
The men's varsity eight finished fourth in the Copely Cup final, falling to California. The Cardinal pulled in with a final time of 5:56.34 while champion California finished in 5:51.8.
The men's second varsity eight also finished fourth in their race, the Sharp Cabrillo Cup with a time of 6:20.72, while the freshmen eight finished third in the Derek Guelker Memorial Cup, checking in at 6:33.12.
'I am very pleased with the effort, focus and learning that was gained through this weekends racing,' said head coach Craig Amerkhanian. 'To defeat Cal on Saturday and race with the best on Sunday was tremendous for our team.'
In women's lightweight racing, the Stanford crew crossed the finish line behind the rest of the field in 7:24.24. Winner St. John's posted a time of 7:12.26.

Next up for the Cardinal men is a Friday evening head-to-head race against Washington at Redwood Shores at 6pm on April 17. The lightweight women will face off against Santa Clara on April 11, also at Redwood Shores.
