Box Score

Corvallis, Ore. – Freshman Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) went 3-for-4 with a double and run scored, but the Oregon State softball team fell to No. 12 California, 12-3, on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Stefanie Ewing (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and sophomore McKenna Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) both had multi-hit games with two each with Lowe adding a run. The Beavers tallied a total of 10 hits.

California got on the board first on a solo home run to start the game by Valerie Arioto. But the Beavers answered quickly by tying loading the bases in the bottom of the inning before sophomore Erin Guzy (Beaverton, Ore.) got the first Beaver RBI after being hit by pitch.

The Golden Bears took a three-run lead in the second despite another run by the Beavers. Lowe led off the inning with a one-out bunt single before reaching second on junior Dani Chisholm’s (Boring, Ore.) sacrifice bunt. Sanchez earned her lone RBI on a single to centerfield to score Lowe.

After a scoreless third inning, Cal widened the gap to five runs before earning five more in the top of the sixth.

But Oregon State (17-18, 2-5) looked to rally with junior Tarah Black (Portland, Ore.) coming in to pinch hit and ripping a double to right center. Sophomore Audrey Roderfeld (Vista, Calif.) earned her RBI on the next at bat with a single to centerfield. Ewing followed with her second hit of the game to advance the runner to second, but a deep fly ball to left field ended the game.

Freshman Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) was charged with the loss after pitching 2.1 innings, making her record 10-7. Junior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) was the other pitcher for the Beavers, throwing 3.2 innings.

Arioto went 1-for-1 with three runs to lead Cal. Pitcher Marissa Drewrey earned the complete game win, improving to 16-8. Overall, the Golden Bears are now 26-11, 2-4 Pac-10.

Oregon State heads to Portland State on Wednesday for a doubleheader. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Erv Lind Stadium.
