Ciara Viehweg Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
April 6, 2009
Redshirt junior Ciara Viehweg (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius HS) of the UCLA women's track & field team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Mar. 30-Apr. 5.
Viehweg charged back onto the steeplechase scene in a big way on Friday evening as she broke the nearly four-year old school record to win the event on day one of the UCLA Invitational. Viehweg set a new personal best time by nearly eight seconds, running 10:27.73 (old best, 10:35.70 from 2007). Her time broke Alison Costello's school record of 10:31.34, which was set in 2005. Viehweg won by just over 40 seconds as she picked up her regional qualifying mark in the event. Her time also ranks amongst the top-15 in the NCAA.
This is Viehweg's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of her career.
Also nominated: Brittany Fullen, W. Water Polo; Niko Gallego, Baseball; Taylor Hobson, M. Track & Field; Megan Langenfeld, Softball; Anna Li, Gymnastics; Sean O'Malley, M. Volleyball; Holden Seguso, M. Tennis; Glory Yang, W. Golf.
