April 7, 2009
GAINSVILLE, Fla. -- University of Washington junior Molly Aronsson recorded her best collegiate finish at the Lady Gator Invitational, placing second Monday.
As a team, the Huskies shot a final round 311 (+31) to climb two spots from yesterday to finish sixth out of the 16-team field. Top team honors was shared between Duke (298-305-310 913) and Auburn (306-305-302 913). Medalist honors went to Duke's Amanda Blumenhers, who shot a 12-over 222.
'We played okay, we just couldn't get a fourth score,' said UW coach Mary Lou Mulflur. 'That fourth score killed us this week, but we'll learn from it.'
Tuesday was Aronsson's (74-72-78-224) first top-10 finish of her career playing for the University of Washington. Her previous best finish came at the 2008 Spartan Invitational, where she finished in a tie for 22nd.
'She really wanted to win the tournament, but she just couldn't finish,' Mulflur said. 'But it was a great tournament for her. She had an opportunity to win, but you've got to be in those situations before you can close it out. This will be her learning experience.'
Following Aronsson's finish for the Huskies was Christina Yoon, who tied for 32nd place with at 25-over 235. Sadena Parks finished in a tie for 46th place with 239, Anya Alvarez finished in 61st with 243 and Karinn Dickinson finished 66th with 246.
The Huskies' next tournament is the Lady Buckeye Invitational April 19 and 20 at the Scarlet Golf Course in Columbus, Ohio.
