Golden Bears Engage in Friendly Spring Scrimmage with Cardinal

BERKELEY - The California volleyball team hosted its only home event of the spring as Stanford paid a visit to Haas Pavilion on Wednesday night for a friendly scrimmage that drew more than 125 fans. The Golden Bears and the Cardinal played four 20-minute sets of volleyball with stoppages for timeouts and unlimited substitutions. No official score was kept from set to set.
Ten players took the court for Cal; outside hitters senior Hana Cutura and sophomore Tarah Murrey; middle hitters senior Mindi Wiley and sophomore Shannon Hawari; setters junior Carli Lloyd and sophomore Kristin Obermeyer; and defensive specialists senior Kristen Kathan, junior Meagan Schmitt and sophomores Ashley Roe and Paulina Inzerillo.
Unofficial Cal statistics for the scrimmage are as follows: Lloyd had 4 kills, 2 digs, and 5 blocks; Kathan had 8 digs, and 5 service aces; Murrey had 26 kills, 6 digs, and 4 blocks; Roe had 4 digs; Obermeyer had 2 digs; Inzerillo had 4 digs; Hawari had 11 kills, and 12 blocks; Wiley had 11 kills, 4 digs, and 10 blocks; Cutura had 22 kills, 2 service aces, 12 digs, and 4 blocks; and Schmitt had 1 service ace, and 7 digs.
Every Cal player saw playing time as the Bears rotated several lineups and experimented with different on-court formations. Stanford junior outside hitter Alix Klineman did not participate in the scrimmage.
The Bears are back in action for a scrimmage against Saint Mary's College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22. The teams will scrimmage at McKeon Pavilion in Moraga, Calif.
