It's Gotta be the Shoes ...
April 10, 2009
These are the new Nike shoes that the football team will be wearing in 2010; we'd love to show you, but we can't; really we would, but we can't since they are still in the testing stage, which is one of the great benefits Oregon State student-athletics have being the closest major conference institution to the Nike campus.
So, while you can't see them, trust us - they're cool.
In other news, game officials are scheduled for practice on April 17 and April 24. To call those scrimmages is a bit much ... so let's leave it as officiated practices. Keep an eye on these practice blogs for any updates or changes to the plan.
Moving to the field ... the Beavers practiced in sunny Reser Stadium today with quite a few fans on hand. At this time of year the depth chart is in flux on a minute-by-minute basis, but today it was notable that James Dockery played right cornerback (opposite Tim Clark) with the first team ... although that move isn't necessarily permanent. It is also apparent that freshman tailback Jovan Stevenson, who enrolled at OSU in January, brings a lot of athleticism to the position and has a very realistic chance of contributing in 2009. Stevenson has good hands, speed and nifty moves to get upfield in a hurry. Flanker Aaron Nichols made a couple acrobatic catches today and had a few touchdowns during red zone drills.
Defensive end Matt LaGrone (wrist) mentioned that he is hopeful to return to the practice field on Monday for the first time this spring.
There was an unusually large group of media in attendance for a Friday. Bob Clark of the Register Guard talked to cornerbacks Tim Clark and Brandon Hardin as well as defensive coordinator Mark Banker; Cliff Kirkpatrick of the Gazette-Times interviewed Ben Terry and Kevin Frahm in an effort to dissect the defensive end position; Darren Fabre of KMTR-TV talked to several players including Hardin, Brady Camp and freshman tailback Jovan Stevenson; Gary Horowitz of the Statesman Journal brought his usual laundry list of interview requests but focused on the local guys from Salem, Jordan Bishop and Tony Wilson.
