Softball Comes up Short against Oregon

Eugene, Ore. - Freshman Ashley Sanchez (Alameda, Calif.) went 2-for-3 with a run and stolen base, but the Oregon State softball team came up short against Oregon on Friday afternoon at Howe Stadium.

Oregon State (19-19, 2-6) left eight runners on base to Oregon's (13-22, 2-6) five, with the Beavers collecting six total hits with four walks.

The Ducks took a three-run lead in the first inning with the Beavers able to make up some ground. Senior DeAnn Young (Camarillo, Calif.) earned the first Oregon State RBI on a single to right field in the fourth to score Sanchez, who reached on a leadoff walk before stealing second.

Oregon State loaded the bases in the fifth inning behind a pair of hits and a walk. Senior Stefanie Ewing (Scottsdale, Ariz.) walked in a run on a full count to score senior Paige Lowe (Tustin, Calif.) to get within one.

Freshman pitcher Paige Hall (Portland, Ore.) scattered four hits and fanned five, throwing six scoreless innings in relief. Junior Kelly Dyer (Eugene, Ore.) was charged with the loss after pitching the first inning, making her record now 8-12.

Oregon's Blair Williamson scored two on her home run over right center in the first inning, while Sari-Jane Jenkins counted the first RBI on her shot down the left line. Pitcher Sam Skillingstad tallied the complete game win, making her record 10-8.

Oregon State wraps up the Civil War Series at Oregon on Saturday 1:00 p.m. The Beavers still have a chance to tie the overall series with a win.
