The No. 37-ranked California men's tennis team (10-9, 2-3 Pac-10) took its 10th victory of the season as it defeated Oregon (9-14, 0-5 Pac-10) by a 6-1 count today at the 18th Street Tennis Courts. Senior Eoin Heavey clinched the win for the Golden Bears as he defeated Alexander Cornelissen in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.

Cal went ahead in the match first as it claimed the doubles point for the 13th time this season. The Bears' freshman tandem of Nick Andrews and Thai Tu got off court first as they took an 8-2 win over Jose' Izquierdo and Mike Myrhed at court three. The sophomores polished off the Ducks as Jonathan Dahan and Bozhidar Katsarov got the 8-6 win over Duncan MacDonald-Korth and Ayrton Wibowo at No. 2 doubles. At the top court, No. 13-ranked senior Geoff Chizever and sophomore Pedro Zerbini fought hard but could not keep pace with Cornelissen and Marcos Verdasco, falling, 8-4.

The Bears didn't waste any time before they went up 2-0 when Katsarov finished off MacDonald-Korth at the fifth court in a 6-4, 6-1 decision. Tu was off the courts next as he walked away with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Izquierdo at No. 4 singles for a 3-0 lead. Heavey sealed the win for Cal next at court two.

After dropping his first set, Dahan regrouped to nab two 6-2 sets in the second and third and defeated Sho Higuchi in the process to give Cal the 5-0 lead. At the top court, No. 81-ranked Zerbini won his first set, 7-5, but fell by the same score in the second. In the third-set super-tiebreaker, Zerbini gave Verdasco no quarter as he defeated him, 10-4, for his 21st singles win of the year.

With the match already decided, the Ducks put their only point on the board as Wibowo came away with a hard-fought three-set victory against Andrews, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5; making the final count, 6-1 in Cal's favor.

The Bears return to the Bay Area for one more regular season match as they take on rival Stanford next Saturday, April 18, in a 1 p.m. match at the Taube Family Tennis Center in Stanford, Calif. Live video and statistics will be available via links at the men's tennis page on www.gostanford.com.
