The No. 8-ranked California women's tennis team (16-4, 6-1 Pac-10) won its fifth consecutive match as the Golden Bears defeated No. 45 Pepperdine (10-11) in a 7-0 sweep today at the Hellman Tennis Complex. No. 47-ranked senior Claire Ilcinkas clinched the victory for Cal as she completed a 6-0, 6-3 win against Tania Rice at No. 4 singles.

The Bears claimed the first point of the match as sophomore Mari Andersson and freshman Jana Juricova flexed their No. 6 ranking at the top court with an 8-1 win against Anamika Bhargava and Alex Liles. The duo pushed their record to 17-1 overall, and 11-0 in duals at the top court. Senior Bojana Bobusic and freshman Stephany Chang defeated Rice and Danielle Thomasma at court three, 8-4, and No. 20-ranked sophomore Marina Cossou and Ilcinkas also took an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles against Andrea Oates and Alexandria Walters.

Chang completed her singles match in a hurry as she got off court in 48 in minutes to record a 6-0, 6-0 win over Angelia de Meistre at No. 6 singles; giving Cal a 2-0 lead. No. 21-ranked Bobusic pushed the lead to 3-0 as she took out Thomasma at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Bobusic also took her singles record to 33-7, and for a brief moment, led the team in that statistical category.

Ilcinkas finished next to clinch Cal's fifth-straight match. No. 10-ranked Juricova caught up to Bobusic moments later and got her 33rd singles victory as well with a 6-1, 6-2 ousting of Bhargava at the top court. No. 25 Cossou recorded the same set-scores as Juricova as she posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 93-ranked Walters at court two. No. 42-ranked Andersson finished the day off with her 6-4, 6-4 win against Oates at court three, to give Cal the 7-0 sweep.

The Bears return to the court next Saturday, April 18, for a noon match against rival No. 10 Stanford (17-3, 6-1 Pac-10) at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The Cardinal won the first meeting on March 7 at the Taube Family Tennis Center in a come-from-behind 4-3 victory. No. 9 USC (19-2, 7-0 Pac-10) has already clinched a share of the Pac-10 title but if it should lose to No. 11 UCLA (17-5, 5-2 Pac-10) on Friday (April 17), the Bears and the Cardinal will be playing for a share of the conference crown.
