FOX Sports Arizona Pays Tribute To Bruce Snyder‏
April 13, 2009
To honor the memory of Bruce Snyder, FOX Sports Arizona will replay the historic 1996 Arizona State/Nebraska football game this Thursday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. The three-hour telecast will also include some of Snyder's former ASU players talking about their coach, who passed away today at the age of 69 after being diagnosed with cancer last June.
In addition to Thursday's game replay, the network will also air Spotlight: Bruce Snyder on Thursday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. This 30-minute program starts production this week and will highlight the life and career of the Sun Devil football coach through personal stories and remembrances from his players and coaches. That same night, the 1996 ASU/Nebraska game replays again at 7 p.m. and an encore of Spotlight: Bruce Snyder follows at 10:30 p.m.
This Arizona State/Nebraska game, which was voted as the best game ever televised on FOX Sports Arizona, saw Snyder guide the Sun Devils to a 19-0 win over the top-ranked Cornhuskers on Sept. 21, 1996. Two-time defending national champion Nebraska came into Tempe with a 26-game winning streak and left with their first regular season shutout loss since 1973. Arizona State's win set the wheels in motion for one of the greatest season in the history of Sun Devil football, as ASU finished with an undefeated regular season and played in the 1997 Rose Bowl against Ohio State.
