Track and Field Athletes of the Week: April 6-12

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 6-12:

Men's Track Athlete of the Week: JESHUA ANDERSON, WASHINGTON STATE (So., Woodland Hills, Calif.). Anderson earns the Pac-10 Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor for the second consecutive week as he won the 400m hurdles invitational race at the UCLA Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational meet in an improved NCAA RQ and nation-leading time of 49.44 seconds. He also improved his NCAA RQ time in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.20, and ran the lead leg of the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:13.40 for fifth place.

Men's Field Athletes of the Week: RYAN YOUNG, CALIFORNIA (Jr., Silverdale, Wash.) Young set both the school and meet records in the javelin Friday at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational. Young posted a record-setting mark of 250-10 (76.45m). Young's mark on Friday also currently ranks fourth in the NCAA this season. The previous school record in the javelin was 236-0, set by Paul Teinert in 2006. Young's previous personal best was 235-02, which he set last season and then-ranked second best in school history.

Women's Track Athlete of the Week: CHARONDA WILLIAMS, ARIZONA STATE (Sr., Richmond, Calif.). In the 200m dash at the 30th Sun Angel Track Classic,Williams clocked in at a nation-leading 22.82 to finish second only to 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Kerron Stewart while also breaking the ASU school record of 22.91 (Maicel Malone, 1991) that hadstood for 18 years. Later in the evening, Williams competed in her first 100m dash of the season and won the event, running 11.44, which is just 0.03 off her personal best. Between those two races, she anchored the 4x100m relay to a second-place showing with a time of 44.38, making her a part of three regional qualifying marks on the day.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week: SARAH STEVENS, ARIZONA STATE (Sr., Ft. Collins, Colo.). Stevens regionally qualified in all three throwing events at the 30th Sun Angel Track Classic, including the shot put event that she won. In her first shot put competition of the outdoor season, the national indoor runner-up hit a toss of 18.00m (59-00.75) to win the event and move into the No. 2 position on the NCAA order lists for the 2009 outdoor season. She also posted improved marks in the discus (54.58m/179-01) and the hammer (64.87m/212-10) to move into the Top 5nationally so far this season.
