April 16, 2009

NORMAN, Okla. -- The field for the Ben Hogan Award has been narrowed, and University of Washington junior Nick Taylor is in the mix of 10 semifinalists for golf's most prestigious collegiate honor.

The Ben Hogan Award is presented annually to the top men's college golf player from NCAA Division I, II or III, or NAIA or NJCAA, taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.

Taylor is in the midst of arguably the best single golf season in Husky golf history, earning medalist honors at the CordeValle Collegiate in November, the Hawai'i-Hilo Intercollegiate in February and the Oregon Duck Invitational in March. His total of three top finishes is the highest of any Husky in program history, and he is tied for second most among Hogan Award semifinalists this year. Taylor has also finished inside the top 10 in five of this seven collegiate tournaments in the 2008-09 season. He is currently ranked by Golfweek as the No. 16 collegiate golfer. In the most dominant conference in college golf, the Pac-10, Taylor has twice been named the Player of the Month this season.

As an amateur, Taylor has also enjoyed a successful season. He is ranked No. 7 in amateur golfers by Golfweek. This year, Taylor finished as the runner-up at the World Amateur Team Championship in Adelaide, Australia, and he also advanced into the round of 32 at the 2008 U.S. Amateur Championship.

The list of 10 finalists will be whittled down to three finalists on May 7. Those three golfers will be invited to Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Hogan Award presentation May 22.
