Huskies Third At Lady Buckeye
April 19, 2009
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Washington women's golf team finished in third place at the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational at the Ohio State University's Scarlet Course on Sunday.
Led by sophomore Anya Alvarez and her third-place finish (71-78-71 220), the Dawgs scored a collective 302-308-301 911 to move up two spots on the final day finish inside the top three. Winning the tournament was Ohio State (895) and Buckeye In Hong Lim (217).
'This was a pretty good finish for us, but we have still yet to all click in a tournament,' said UW head coach Mary Lou Mulflur, whose team has finished in the top five of its last three tournaments. 'It looks like we're getting there, but there is a little frustration.'
Alvarez was followed in the standings by junior Molly Aronsson, who finished 13-over and tied for 13th place by shooting a 74-76-79 229. Sadena Parks tied for 20th place with a 78-80-74 232, Christina Yoon tied for 47th (236) and Karinn Dickinson tied for 40th (237).
The Huskies are hoping to get it all going at the Pac-10 Championship April 24-26 at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif. The Huskies played there once already this year, and Karinn Dickinson won the 2008 Peg Barnard Collegiate there last spring. Sunday's third-place finish tied the Huskies' top team finish thus far this year with the women's placing at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in October.
