WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Stanford freshman Bradley Klahn was named the Pac-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for Apr. 13 - 19, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Klahn, who was recently moved to the No. 1 singles slot, registered his fifth straight No. 1 singles victory last week. The Poway, Calif., native downed 115th-ranked Tommy Tu of USF on Apr. 15, 6-2, 6-3 and came back to defeat rival California's Pedro Zerbini (No. 58) 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 on Apr. 18. In doubles, Klahn teamed up with Ryan Thacher to upset two ranked doubles teams. First, the pair took out USF's team of Tu/Cohen (No. 87), 8-6. They followed up with an 8-1 win over Cal's 15th-ranked team of Zerbini/Chizever.
This is Klahn's third weekly honor of the season and the fifth all-time for Stanford. He becomes the third Pac-10 player to win three player of the week awards in the same season and the first freshman to accomplish that feat.
