Four Stanford Players Reach Singles Quarters At Pac-10 Championships

STANFORD, Calif.- Four Stanford players reached the quarterfinals of their respective divisions, leading the way on the opening day of competition at the Pac-10 Championships on Thursday in Ojai, Calif.
Barte won both her matches in straight sets, breezing past Oregon's Carmen Seremeta 6-1, 6-1 and California's Claire Ilcinkas 6-4, 6-4. Li outlasted Arizona's Sarah Landsman 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 and then dropped USC's Alison Ramos 6-1, 7-5. Meanwhile, Nguyen looked sharp in a 6-2, 6-3 win over California's Mari Andersson before squeezing out a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Arizona State's Laila Abdala.
Hansen coasted in the invitational bracket, defeating UCLA's Jordan Dockendorf 6-4, 6-4 and Washington State's Marina Nicolas 6-3, 6-1.
Carolyn McVeigh and Isamarie Perez both dropped their second round match after winning their opener. McVeigh defeated Arizona's Danielle Steinberg 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 before falling to UCLA's Yasmin Schnack 6-2, 6-1. Playing in her first match of the year, Perez downed California's Catie Visico 6-0, 6-4 before dropping a 6-2, 6-1 decision to UCLA's Carling Seguso.
Lindsay Burdette was edged 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 by California's Bojana Bobusic in the championship division in her first round match, while Jennifer Yen suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback to UCLA's Stephanie Wetmore in her invitational debut.
More singles play, and the start of doubles, are scheduled for Friday.
