Trojans One Off The Lead After Pac-10 Championships First Day
April 24, 2009
Freshman Jennifer Song fired a 1-under 70 to lead the No. 3 USC women's golf team, the defending conference title-holders, into second place after the first day of the 2009 Pac-10 Championships at the Stanford (Calif.) G.C. on Friday (April 24).
USC finished the first day at a combined 8-over 292, one back of first-place UCLA (291) and one better than third-place UCLA (293).
Song earned a share of first-place with her third sub-par round in her past four. Her 70 on Friday included three birdies, two during a par front 9 and one more on the back 9.
Junior Belen Mozo tied for ninth at 2-over 73. She was 3-over going out with three bogeys, but came back at 1-under thanks to a pair of birdies.
Sophomore Lizette Salas is tied for 13th at 3-over 74. Birdies on 7 and 8 brought her to par on the front 9, but she couldn't fight her way back after a couple hiccups on the back 9.
Junior Caroline Kim tied for 21st at 4-over 74. After a slow start on the front 9, she finished strong, playing the final nine holes at even par. Freshman Inah Park rounded out the team, tying for 33rd at 7-over 78.
Play continues Saturday and Sunday. USC will be paired with UCLA on Saturday, teeing off at 9:50 a.m.
