Trojans 3rd After Pac-10s 2nd Round
April 25, 2009
Freshman Jennifer Song remains tied for first while sophomore Lizette Salas and Belen Mozo are tied for ninth as the trio led the No. 3 USC women's golf team, the defending conference title-holders, on the second day of the 2009 Pac-10 Championships at the Stanford (Calif.) G.C. on Saturday (April 25).
USC was one shot better in the second round than the first, but is now third at 15-over 583 (292-291), nine shots behind first-place ASU (574-293-281). UCLA is second at 11-over 579 (291-288).
Song (70-71) is in a four-way tie for first at 1-under 141 with three Sun Devils: Carlota Ciganda (70-71), Azahara Munoz (73-68) and Jennifer Osborn (72-69).
Song was 2-under on the front 9 on Saturday with birdies on the 2nd, 5th and 7th holes. Bogeys on 10 and 16 dropped her to even for the round. Song is trying to become just the fourth Trojan to win an individual Pac-10 title. Paola Moreno won one last year, joining Candie Kung (2000) and Jennifer Biehn (1994).
Five strokes back of Song are Salas (74-72) and Mozo (73-73) at 4-over 146. Salas, trying to finish in the top 10 for the eighth time in as many events this year, had three birdies during her second round, two in a 1-under back 9. Mozo had one birdie against three bogeys during a steady round.
Freshman Inah Park is tied for 32nd at 11-over 153 (78-75) while junior Carolina Kim is tied for 39th at 17-over 159 (75-84).
Action concludes Sunday. USC will tee off with Arizona State and UCLA, beginning at 8:24 a.m.gg
