April 25, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's basketball team held its annual banquet Friday night at the Club (level) at Reser. The event was sponsored by The Rebounders, the Oregon State women's basketball booster organization.
There were more than 200 in attendance at the event, which served as an opportunity to honor the team's award winners, its three seniors - Tiffany Ducker, Brittney Davis and Mercedes Fox-Griffin - and to celebrate the 2008-09 team's accomplishments.
The 2008-09 award winners included: Davis (Offensive Player Of The Year), Talisa Rhea (Academic Excellence Award), Fox-Griffin (Free-Throw Award and Defensive Player of the Year), Ducker (Most Outstanding Rebounder) and Stacey Nichols (Carol Menken-Schaudt Leadership Award). Menken-Schaudt was in attendance to present the award named after herself as well as Aki Hill, Oregon State's former head coach.
Davis was honored for her inclusion on the All-Pac-10 Third Team as was Fox-Griffin for being named to the All-Pac-10 Defensive Team. Rhea was also named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team and was honored at the banquet Friday night.
The entire team was presented a plaque at the outset of the night for earning a berth into the Women's National Invitation Tournament and finishing with a 20-12 record - the most wins in a single-season in more than a decade. The Beavers also finished in a tie for fourth in the Pac-10.
The trio of seniors - Davis, Ducker and Fox-Griffin - were honored for their years of commitment to the program toward the end of the ceremony and they were given a chance to speak to the crowd and thank the team's fans, their teammates, families and coaching staff. Fox-Griffin, for the fourth year, also had the opportunity to present her 2008-09 poem entitled 'Sacrifice' toward the start of the banquet.
The night concluded with the 2008-09 highlight video.
