Women's Golf in First at Pac-10 Championship After Second Round

Led by three Sun Devils tied for first, the top-ranked Arizona State women's golf team took over the lead at the Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships presented by Duramed after shooting a 3-under 281 in the second round to finish 6-over 574 (293-281). The Sun Devils are five shots ahead of UCLA who finished 11-over 579 (291-288). The Pac-10 Women's Golf Championship presented by Duramed is held at the par 71, 6,148-yard Stanford University Golf Course.
'I was really pleased with today,' said seventh year head coach Melissa Luellen. 'This group just really wants to win and they know they have to do it together. I'm just very proud of their determination in the hunt for the Pac-10 title.'
A trio of Sun Devils are tied for first. Seniors Azahara Munoz and Jennifer Osborn both shot under part to finish the second round tied with freshman Carlota Ciganda and USC's Jennifer Song. Munoz shot the low-round of the tournament just far. The reigning NCAA Champion totaled four birdies on the day to finish 1-under 141 (73-68) after two rounds.
'Our seniors, Aza and Jen, just played great,' said Luellen with pride in her voice.
Osborn shot a 2-under 69 in the second round, shooting four birdies on the day. After two rounds, Osborn is 1-under (72-69). Ciganda maintained her score after shooting a par-71 in the second round. Ciganda is tied for second at 1-under 141 (70-71).
'Carlota has just been as consistent as can be and has hit a bunch of greens,' said Luellen on her freshman.
Juliana Murcia came back after a tough first round. Murcia recorded two birdies on the back nine and carded a 2-over 73 in the second round. She is currently 11-over 153 (80-73). Jaclyn Sweeney is currently 13-over 155 (78-77).
'July had a really strong comeback. I thought she did a great job,' said Luellen. 'Jackie had some struggles, but she's played some good golf and I think we will get a good round out of her tomorrow.'
The Sun Devils will be paired with UCLA tomorrow in the final round.
