Slade Norris Selected by the Oakland Raiders in the 4th Round

April 26, 2009

Former Oregon State defensive end Slade Norris has been drafted with the 26th pick in the 4th round (126 overall) by the Oakland Raiders on Sunday in the 2009 National Football League Draft.

Norris earned three letters while starting all 13 games last season. The Portland, Ore. native originally arrived at Oregon State as a safety before moving to linebacker and eventually becoming a situational third down rusher as a junior when he recorded nine sacks. As a senior in 2008, Norris took on the starters' role and finished the season with 18.5 tackles-for-loss and 10 sacks and finished his career with 19 sacks, which goes down as the fourth-most in OSU history.

With the selection of Norris, who along with Victor Butler combined to form one of the top passing rushing combinations in the Pac-10 for the past two years, it marks the first time in OSU has had two defensive linemen to be taken in the same NFL Draft since 1970 when Bill Nelson (7th/Rams) and Jess Lewis (13th/Oilers) were selected.

Norris joins Andy Levitre (2nd/51st), Keenan Lewis (3rd/96th) and Victor Butler (4th/110th) as Beaver alums taken in the 2009 draft, marking the most former Oregon State players taken in a single NFL Draft since 2004 when Steven Jackson (1st/Rams), Dwan Edwards (2nd/Ravens), Tim Euhus (4th/Bills) and Richard Seigler (4th/49ers).
