WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- UCLA junior Megan Langenfeld and STANFORD senior Missy Penna were named the Pac-10 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 20-26, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Langenfeld, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., hit .600 last weekend in UCLA’s road sweep of the Arizona schools.  The junior went 6-for-10 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI with two runs scored, while racking-up a 1.200 slugging percentage over the three-game series.

On Saturday against Arizona State, Langenfeld belted a two-run home run in the top of the first inning to spur UCLA’s 9-1 run-rule victory over the Sun Devils.  The next day, again against Arizona State, Langenfeld reached in all five plate appearances, including hitting two singles and a home run to help UCLA secure the 10-4 victory.  The Bruin has hit safely in eight-straight contests, tallying a .500 batting average during that streak with four home runs and five FBI.

This marks the fifth Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Langenfeld and the second time in her career she has been named the Pac-10 Player and Pitcher of the Week in the same season, last time in 2007.  This also marks the 110th Player of the Week honor for UCLA

Penna threw every inning in the three-game series against the Oregon schools last weekend, helping Stanford complete the three-game sweep.  The Miami, Fla., native posted two shutouts to break the Stanford single-season shutout record with 16.

Penna began the weekend by striking out 12 batters in the Cardinal’s nine inning shutout of Oregon, followed by tossing the 6-3 victory over Oregon State.  The senior then went on to throw a one-hitter against the Beavers to register her second shutout of the weekend.  Penna posted a 0.91 ERA with 24 K’s over the three game series.

Penna has been honored as the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week for the ninth time in her career and the fifth time this season.  Penna now ties current Washington pitcher Danielle Lawrie, former Wildcat Alicia Hollowell and former Bruin Keira Goerl for most honors in a single season.  Stanford has recorded 44 Player of the Week honors overall.
