Husky Women Earn Regional Bid

April 29, 2009

SEATTLE, Wash. -- The University of Washington women's golf was selected to participate at the NCAA Central Regional tournament May 7-9 at The Ohio State University's Scarlett Course.

Also, sophomore Anya Alvarez was recognized with a Pac-10 Honorable Mention over the weekend.

This year's selection is the Huskies' 16th trip to a regional in the past 18 years. The Central is part of three regionals to decide which 24 teams will head to the NCAA Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, MD. The regional field will consist of 21 teams with the top eight advancing to the NCAA Championship, along with two individuals. The last regional the UW was in, it placed third -- a program best -- and went on to finish sixth at the NCAA Championship -- which tied for a program best.

Washington had the opportunity to play at the Scarlett Course just this month for the Lady Buckeye Invitational, where the Huskies posted their best finish of the season. Alvarez (third) and junior Molly Aronsson (13th) finished inside the top 15 of the 15-team tournament on April 18-19. As a team, the Huskies shot their second-lowest score of the season at 911.
