Huskies Return Home For Final Two Spring Games
April 30, 2009
SEATTLE - The Washington women's soccer team, which is fresh of an NCAA Second Round appearance in the fall, will conclude its spring season with two home games at Husky Soccer Field over the next two weekends.
The Huskies return to their home field this weekend when they host Western Washington on Saturday, May 2 at 7 p.m. Tickets to the game are $5 but all proceeds will benefit the team's upcoming foreign tour of Brazil.
UW will then wrap up their spring campaign next Saturday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. when they host the Seattle Sounders women's club at Husky Soccer Field. Again, all money received from admission to the game will support the team's June trip to the Mecca of soccer.
The $5 tickets may be purchased at each game. Come out and support the Huskies and see All-Pac-10 players Veronica Perez and Kate Deines along with the rest of the team which will be gunning for a Pac-10 title in the fall.
Watch Former Huskies Solo, Ellertson This Weekend
Fans can watch former Husky standouts Hope Solo and Tina Ellertson this weekend as members of the St. Louis Athletica of the Women's Pro Soccer league as their game with the Washington Freedom will be broadcast on Fox Soccer Channel at 3 p.m. PT.
While the Athletica are still looking for their first win after two losses and a draw, the team has played solid defense with Solo in goal and Ellertson making the switch to the back line. The team earned an important draw with league-leader Los Angeles last weekend, which boasts Brazilian star Marta, who leads the league in scoring.
The Freedom boast stars such as Abby Wambach and Briana Scurry while the Athletica team includes Lori Chalupny and Brazilian stars Daniela and Francielle in addition to the former UW All-Americans Solo and Ellertson.
