Three Bears Are All-Pac-10 Honorable Mentions
May 1, 2009
The 2009 award is the second such recognition for Gandranata, following last year's distinction, and the third honorable mention for Jensen, with prior recognition in 2004-05 2006-07.
Senior co-captain Jensen won the San Francisco Intercollegiate to start the year and finished 7th at the Husky Invitational en route to his 73.3 average. Gandranata, also a senior, started the year with a 7th at the San Francisco Intercollegiate and goes into the NCAA Regionals with a 73.9 stroke average.
John Murphy, a junior first-year transfer, was previously an all-conference player at Old Dominion, where he was named 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Most Outstanding Performer and selected to the CAA All-Conference Team after he won the CAA Conference Championship (69-69-72 - 210).
Murphy finished 5th at his first Pac-10 Championship earlier this week to culminate a year with a 72.7 average and four more top-10 finishes: a tie for 10th at the San Francisco Intercollegiate, 2nd at the Wolverine Intercollegiate and ties for 7th at the Husky Invitational and the Thunderbird Invitational.
'As a team we've had a good, solid year, with some excellent play out of many of our different players,' said Head Coach Steve Desimone. 'That play was recognized by the coaches with the selection of these three young men. It certainly is deserved.'
The Golden Bears await a selection in the NCAA Regionals announced Monday, May 4.
