PULLMAN, Wash. - Stanford defeated Washington State 3-2 to win three-game Pacific-10 Conference baseball series at Bailey-Brayton Field, Sunday.

After the teams split the first two games, Sunday's matchup was delayed 22 minutes at the start by rain. Once it got underway, Jeffrey Inman (2-6) of Stanford (22-19, 10-11 Pac-10) and redshirt-freshman David Stilley (2-1) of WSU (22-20, 11-7 Pac-10) started mowing down hitters.

Neither team advanced a runner beyond second base through three innings and the score was 0-0 through four. Stanford broke through in the fifth on a home run by Ben Clowe to take a 1-0 lead.

In the seventh, Brent Milleville's two-run home run gave the Cardinal a 3-0 advantage. Washington State answered in the bottom of the seventh on a home run by senior Greg Lagreid and a pinch hit, RBI-single by junior Matt Fanelli to cut the Cougars' deficit to 3-2. However, the Stanford bullpen held WSU hitless over the final two frames to seal the victory.

'Inman and Stilley each pitched very well today,' WSU Head Coach Donnie Marbut said. 'We just made one more mistake then they did.'

The Cougars host Oregon in a three-game series beginning, Saturday at 7 p.m.

WSU NOTES
Senior Jared Prince played in his 207th career game to move into 10th place on the Washington State career list...redshirt-freshman David Stilley pitched six and two-thirds inning for the longest outing of his career.
