Pac-10 Q&A: Brent Milleville, Stanford Baseball

May 6, 2009

What are your goals for the rest of the season?
My number one goal is to help the team get back on track so we have a shot at making the postseason. Obviously, with this being my senior year, I would be extremely upset if we did not get a shot to play past the regular season.

On my iPod is...
On my iPod is a little bit of everything, but I spend most of my time listening to country.

I would love to trade places for a day with...
Manny Ramirez. One, I would like to know how it feels to hit like he does and make it look so easy. And two, it would be amazing to experience the major leagues and see how they live every day.

My favorite teams to watch as a kid were...
The Seattle Mariners and the Chicago Bulls. I loved the Mariners because I idolized Ken Griffey Jr. growing up. The Bulls were obviously fun to watch because they dominated in the 90s.

My favorite athlete to watch is...
LeBron James, even though I hate to admit it. He is a freak of an athlete and is able to do things that people his size should never be able to do. I hate to admit I enjoy watching him because I am afraid that people will one day see him as a better player than Michael Jordan.

The talent I'd most like to have is...
The talent I would like to have is to be able to play the guitar and sing well. Who doesn't like someone who can really play the guitar and sing to go along with it?

My favorite memory as a Cardinal is...
Playing in the College World Series. Ever since I was a young kid I dreamed about playing in the CWS. I watched it on TV and was even able to attend a few games as a kid and I really thought there would be nothing cooler than playing in Omaha. I was right.

The attribute I most like about myself is...
I get along with everyone. It's nice not having enemies or people who really dislike you that you have to look out for.

My plans after college are...
Uncertain right now. I am going to see what happens with the MLB draft and go from there. Eventually, I would like to start up my own company and oversee all of the company's operations.

The best thing about Stanford is...
The people. I have met people not only from all over the United States, but all over the world. I now have connections almost anywhere I go, which is a very nice thing to have.

My funniest teammate is...
Adam Gaylord. He doesn't try to be funny all the time, but when he does chime in he is hilarious.

The sport I'm the worst at is...
Outside of cross-country, I would have to say soccer. I played as a young kid, but I never play anymore. I am scared that if I tried I would trip over the ball and break an arm or something.

Something about me that others would be surprised to hear is...
I like to read. I have always enjoyed reading almost anything and now Jeff Whitlow has gotten me into fantasy books so I've been reading books about vampires and magic and things like that.

The best advice I've received was...
'Play as hard as you can' - from my high school baseball coach. You never know who is watching and whoever is watching will always be impressed by hustle.

My biggest pet peeve is...
Traffic. After moving out to California for school I have realized that nothing drives me crazier than sitting in a traffic jam or moving 20 mph on a freeway.

What do you miss most about Kansas and why?
I miss my family and my friends mostly. Outside of that I miss being able to get somewhere I need or want to be without traffic. I also miss being able to hunt and fish whenever I want.
