Cal Women's Pole Vaulters Take Top Three Spots at Sacramento Open

The California women's pole vaulters highlighted the Golden Bears' performances Saturday at the Sacramento Open. Sophomore Allison Stokke recorded a new personal best when she took top honors in the pole vault. Senior Katie Morgan took second and sophomore Cyrena Giordano came in third. Sophomore Kiely Smith also won the hammer and junior Kristin Holmes won the long jump.
Stokke surpassed her previous personal best by four inches with her first-place mark of 13-9.75 (4.21m). Her mark ranks second all time in school history, behind Morgan who took second in today's meet with her score of 13-3.50 (4.05m). Giordano finished in third at 12-11.50 (3.95m).
Smith recorded a personal-best mark of 163-01 (49.72m) to take top honors in the hammer, while Holmes notched a season-best mark of 19-7.0 (5.97m) to win the long jump. Holmes also competed in the 100-meter dash, taking second in that event (12.11).
Redshirt freshman Linda Oseso earned a personal best in the shot put for the second straight week with her mark of 43-8.0 (13.31m), placing third in the event. Freshman Kendall Morris also PRed on Saturday when she came in fifth in the discus (152-11, 46.60m).
The Cal decathletes will be competing tomorrow in the Pac-10 Multi Event Championships. Next weekend, the Bears will be competing in the Pac-10 Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
