Freshman Ryann Krais picked up an NCAA automatic qualifier in the heptathlon on Sunday as she scored UCLA's first points of the Pac-10 Championships with a fourth-place finish in the seven-event competition.

It was a career day for Krais as the freshman scored a lifetime-best 5606 points, surpassing the NCAA automatic qualifier of 5500 points. Her second day score of 2219 points was also a new lifetime-best.

Krais finished seventh in the long jump with a mark of 18-6.50 for 744 points. In the javelin, she finished ninth with a throw of 116-7 for 582 points. In the final event of the day, the 800m, Krais ran a lifetime-best of 2:14.96 for the third-fastest time of the day and 893 points.

Her score of 5606 points also moves her into the top five in the NCAA this season and guarantees Krais a spot at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships held June 10-13 in Fayetteville, AR.

Her performance this weekend also moved her into the UCLA record books with the sixth-best heptathlon score in Bruin history.

Krais picked up five points for the Bruins with her fourth-place finish.
