Dawgs Wrap Up Home Slate Vs. BYU
May 12, 2009
SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team wraps up its current nine-game homestand, as well as the 2009 home schedule today and tomorrow when BYU visits for the last two non-conference games of the regular season. First pitch for both games is 6:30 p.m.
The Huskies (23-24 overall, 12-9 in the Pac-10 Conference) come into the series having taken two of three from then-No. 25 Oregon State over the weekend. After a slow start, the Dawgs have worked their way into a tie for fourth place in the Pac-10, alongside the Beavers. UW and OSU are only a half-game behind third-place UCLA (14-10) and a game and a half back of second-place Washington State (14-7).
This weekend (Saturday through Monday, actually), the Huskies take on Arizona in Tucson while the Beavers and Cougars square off in Corvallis (Friday through Sunday). UCLA plays a non-conference series vs. Cal State Fullerton, so the Bruins' conference record won't change this week. On the final weekend of the regular season (May 22-24), OSU plays Stanford, UCLA takes on Arizona State and the Huskies play WSU in Pullman.
Brigham Young comes to Seattle fresh from a three-game sweep of UNLV in Provo. The Cougars (27-21 overall and 14-8 in the Mountain West) will be playing their final two games of the regular season as their next games will be at the MWC tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, next week.
In tonight's opener, Washington will give the ball to left-handed sophomore Ben Guidos, who will be making his sixth start of the season. BYU will counter with freshman righty Marc Oslund, who despite boasting a 5-1 record, will be starting for just the third time this season. Wednesday's Husky starter has yet to be determined while the Cougars will go with right-handed junior Blake Torgerson.
None of the eight remaining games in the regular season will air on radio, but you can catch live video (BYU) or audio (Arizona & WSU) at the Dawg Channel at gohuskies.com, with a subscription. Of course, live Gametracker stats of all eight games will be provided.
