Three Beavers to Play in Youth World Championships

Oregon State freshman Danny Mwanga has been invited to play for Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake’s youth team in the Youth World Championships held in Madrid, Spain May 30-June 12. Mwanga, who was the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year will be joining incoming freshmen Mike Hodgen and Tommy Martin who have signed 2009 National Letters of Intent with Oregon State. Hodgen is a 6’2” center midfielder from Centerville, UT and Martin is a 6’3” center midfielder from Park City, UT.
“What a tremendous opportunity for these young men to play on the world stage with the best youth players in the world,” OSU Head Coach Dana Taylor said. “The atmosphere will be electric, the pace of play will be quick and the play movement off the ball will be tireless. We could not be more happy for these guys as it will be a rewarding experience that they can bring back to Oregon State.”
Real Salt Lake earned a berth to the YWC by winning the US National Tournament against all the MLS youth teams. Real Salt Lake is in Group C with FC Barcelona, Boca Juniors and Werder Bremen. Other notable participants unclude Real Madrid, AC Milan, Sao Paulo and Atletico de Madrid.
