May 13, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State rower Devery Karz has been invited to the U.S. Under-23 Lightweight Women's Sculling Camp at the GMS Rowing center in Milford, Conn.
'It is no surprise to me that Devery received this invitation,' head coach Emily Ford said. 'She is a great, tough athlete with a lot of ability for this sport. I am excited that she will have the opportunity to be exposed to the next level of rowing in this country. The invitation is a great honor and I'm sure she will have a lot of fun and do a great job.'
The camp selects crews to participate in the 2009 Under-23 World Championships Trials in the lightweight women's double sculls, lightweight women's quadruple sculls and lightweight women's single sculls divisions. The camps will be held at the GMS Rowing center and the Vesper Boat Club in Philadelphia, Pa.
'I am very excited to have such a great opportunity to represent my team in a different rowing community and to row hard,' Karz said.
Karz, a junior from Park City, Utah, has been a key member of OSU's 13th-ranked Varsity 8+ boat throughout the 2009 season.
The 2009 Under-23 World Championships Trials will be held July 6-10 at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J.
