THIS WEEK: The Washington baseball team (24-25 overall, 12-9 in the Pac-10) heads into the final stretch of the season with a Saturday-through-Monday series at Arizona (25-23 overall, 8-13 Pac-10). The three games in Tucson will be followed by three more road games the following weekend at Washington State. The UW heads into the weekend tied for fourth in the Pac-10 alongside Oregon State. The Dawgs and Beavers are a half-game back of UCLA in third and two behind WSU in second. The Husky coaches, taking even more of a 'one game at a time' approach than usual, have only determined a starter for Saturday's game as senior right-hander Jason Erickson will get the ball for the 7:00 p.m. start. Sunday's first pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. and next Monday, the Dawgs and `Cats will play under the hot sun in a 12 noon game. There is no live radio this weekend, though subscribers can catch broadcasts of all three games on the Dawg Channel at gohuskies.com. Here's a look at this weekend's baseball action:

Sat., May 16: UW at Arizona, 7:00 p.m. - live audio at gohuskies.com

SERIES HISTORY: Arizona and Washington have faced one another 33 times with the Wildcats boasting 18 wins and the Huskies 15 in the series. Last year, the teams played a low-scoring, pitching-dominated series as the Huskies won two of three in Seattle. In the opener, played at Safeco Field, Nick Haughian struck out 15 in at two-hit shutout as the UW won, 1-0. The next day, David Coulon returned the favor, pitching Arizona to a 5-0 victory. The UW took the series with a 5-1 Sunday behind a strong outing from Jorden Merry (one run over 7.1 IP).

COACH 'K': In 2004, Husky baseball coach Ken Knutson became the winningest baseball coach in the history of the program. In 2007, he became only the 17th coach in Pac-10 history to reach 500 career wins. Last year, he became the winningest coach in any sport in UW history. Those are just a few of the many accomplishments on Knutson's impressive resume. In his 17 at the helm of his alma mater's baseball team, Knutson has led the Dawgs to two Pac-10 championships, four Pac-10 Northern Division titles and six NCAA Regionals. His career record now stands at 583-394-2 (.596). Before becoming the head man in 1993, Knutson served as the UW pitching coach for eight seasons. In 1985, his staff led the NCAA with a 2.80 ERA. Knutson holds a 303-139-2 (.685) record in home games. He is 239-184 (.565) in Pac-10 games. He's coached 55 All-Pac-10 first-teamers, and has been named league coach of the year three times. A 1981 All-Pac-10 pitcher at the UW, he is joined by assistants Joe Ross, Tighe Dickinson, Kevin Miller and Josh Scofield.
