Kristin Olsen Joins U-23 Team In Ireland
May 14, 2009
USC goalkeeper Kristin Olsen has earned another call-up to the United States Under-23 National Team, following up last month's Oregon trip with competition in Northern Ireland this week. Olsen is one of two goalkeepers selected to the roster for this international trip, in which the U.S. squad has games scheduled for May 13 and 15.
Olsen competed with the Under-20 team last year in international competition in Chile, and was one of three goalkeepers selected to the Under-23 team earlier this year for a training trip to Oregon. Now one of two goalkeepers on the roster, Olsen and her USA teammates are lined up to face the national teams of the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on May 13 and Northern Ireland in Belfast on May 15.
A 2007 All-American and the NCAA College Cup Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Olsen stands as the only USC goalkeeper to have earned national or regional awards. In her junior season in 2008, Olsen compiled a 14-4-2 record with eight shutouts and just 12 goals allowed. She had 12 solo shutouts in 2007 to set a USC single-season record in her first full year of action. Olsen is heading into her senior season with the Trojans with a 34-7-4 career record and a career saves count of 146.
