May 14, 2009
DALY CITY, Calif. - Washington State University junior Kevin Tucker completed the first round of play at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf West Regional Championships, Thursday, and is only two strokes back of the top 13.
Tucker, only the second men's golfer in school history to earn an individual invitation to the regional championships, shot a 73 (+1) in the first round at the par-72, 6,863-yard Lake Merced Golf Club, and currently sits in a tie for 37th.
'Kevin got off to a bit of a slow start on the front,' WSU Head Coach Walt Williams said. 'But he was able to turn it around on the back with four birdies to get into the hunt.'
Tucker is competing with 13 teams and nine other individuals for the right to advance to the NCAA Championships at the Inverness Golf Club in Toledo, Ohio, May 26-30. The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team will move on to the NCAA Championships.
Live, hole-by-hole scoring is available during each of the three rounds at golfstat.com, and results after each day of play will be posted at wsucougars.com. Friday's second round is scheduled to get underway beginning with tee times at 8:30 a.m.
