Andrea Harvey Selected to Race in Canada Summer Games
May 15, 2009
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State rower Andrea Harvey has been selected by Rowing BC to participate in the 2009 Canada Summer Games.
As a freshman, Harvey has rowed primarily in the Beavers Second Varsity 8+ boat and has participated in every one of Oregon State's races this spring. Harvey traveled to Victoria, B.C. in February and raced as both a single, and as part of a four in order to qualify for the Rowing BC team.
'I am really excited about this opportunity to train and compete in a different environment,' Harvey said. 'It will give me the chance to experience rowing with new teammates, coaches and expectations.'
The 2009 Canada Summer Games will be held at Prince Edward Island August 14-22. The games will attract nearly 4,400 athletes, coaches, and managers participating in 18 sports over the two week period.
'I'm thrilled for Andrea. This is a goal she's had her sights on all year and it's nice to see it come to fruition,' Oregon State head coach Emily Ford said. 'I think it will be a great opportunity for her to broaden her horizons in the sport of rowing. It will also be a great honor for her to represent her country.'
