Day 2 Of Pac-10 Championships Underway
May 17, 2009
Eugene, Ore. - The UA men's and women's track and field teams are ready to go on the second day of competition at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. as they continue their quests for the school's first ever track and field conference tournaments.
The men and women both enter the day ranked third in the team competition. The men are sitting well at 39 points and trail UCLA with 45 and Oregon - who had an outstanding first day - at 88 points. The women currently have 32 points and trail Stanford's 58 and Oregon's 67 points.
Both squads have their fair share of point earning opportunities on the board and will need as many of those as they can get to have a chance today. Today also marks the last chance for athletes to earn their first regional qualification of the year. The NCAA West Regional Championships takes place two weeks from now right back here in Eugene.
The UA already bring one conference champion into the second day of competition. Senior Luis Rivera-Morales took home the long jump title yesterday, as he was the first UA athlete to go over 26 feet in 19 years. He is back in action today in the triple jump, an event he is favored to win.
