Bradley Klahn Named ITA National Rookie Of The Year
May 19, 2009
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford freshman Bradley Klahn was named the ITA National Rookie of the Year today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Poway, Calif. native is the second consecutive Cardinal athlete to win the award, as sophomore Alex Clayton was selected last season.
Klahn manufactured a 35-8 overall record (20-5 dual, 19-7 vs. nationally-ranked opponents) while playing at the Nos. 1 and 2 positions in singles, achieving his highest rank of No. 34 towards the end of the season during a streak in which he won 22 of his last 24 matches of the season. His dual match record puts him among the elite of Stanford men's tennis who have won 20 or more dual matches in a single season.
Klahn also became only the fourth Stanford player in program history to win the Pac-10 singles and doubles titles in the same year and is the only freshman in Pac-10 history to earn three conference Player of the Week awards in a single season.
The left-hander will be competing in the NCAA Singles Championship bracket slated to begin May 20 in College Station, Texas. Klahn will meet Ohio State's Steven Moneke in the Round of 64 at 3:30 p.m. CT.
