May 21, 2009
MINNEAPOLIS - The Husky volleyball team will tune up for fall competition this weekend as it competes in the 2009 USA Volleyball Open Championship in Minneapolis, Minn., May 23-26. Current members of the Washington squad will compete in the Women's Open division as 'Huskies VBC.'
The tournament features two days of pool play, which determines the seedings for the last two days of double-elimination play.
The Huskies, who finished the fall season ranked No. 5 in the nation, will face some of the nation's top talent this weekend. Competing in the same division will be two squads from the USA Volleyball National A2 team, which is comprised of some of the best college players in the country, including five players from the Pac-10 (two from Arizona, two from California and one from Oregon). The UCLA Bruins will also play, in addition to several teams made up of current and former college players.
This will be the third year Washington has competed in the tournament, coming in second in 2008 and third in 2007.
