May 21, 2009
Wildcat freshman Natasha Marks ended her freshman season with Arizona today with a loss to North Carolina's Sanaz Marand in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships in College Station, Texas.
In the Thursday morning match, Marand defeated the Nottingham, England native 6-3, 7-5.
'Natasha put up a good fight but Marand had things going her way a bit more on the big points.' Said head coach Vicky Maes, 'She certainly had her chances in the second set, but a little bad luck kept her from taking the match to a third set.'
'Tash made huge strides this year and should feel proud of her accomplishments.' Maes continued, 'Going into next year, we feel confident that she will be able to take over the lead in the line-up and continue to perform at such a high level.'
Marks finished her freshman season with a 20-11 record in singles and a 10-15 record in doubles.
