NCAA West Regional Schedule of Events

This Week
California returns to Eugene, Ore., this weekend for the NCAA West Regional from May 29-30. Events begin at 2:40 p.m. on Friday with the men's javelin and on Saturday at noon with the men's discus. The Cal men are currently ranked No. 15 in the USTFCCCA rankings and the Cal women are just outside of the top 25 at No. 27.

Last Time Out: Bears Take Seventh at Pac-10 Championships
Both the Cal men and women took seventh place at the Pac-10 Championships on May 17 in Eugene, Ore. Highlighting the Golden Bears' performances were senior Inika McPherson winning the women' high jump title and junior Kimyon Broom capturing the 100-meter hurdles championship in a school-record time of 13.02, which also ranks fifth-best in the nation.
Senior Jordan Paul clocked a time of 13.66 in the 110-meter hurdles to place second and that time ranks fourth all-time in school history. The Bears got new regional qualifiers with senior Kandi Bonty (400), sophomore Nick Porter (100), senior Sean Carey (800) and sophomore Michael Coe (1500). Second-place finishers included sophomore Cherrelle Garrett (100), seniors Jake Hanson (400-meter hurdles) and Martin Maric (discus).

Last Year's NCAA West Regional
Cal earned a total of 12 qualifiers for the NCAA Championships at last year's NCAA West Regional. The Cal men finished in sixth with 50 points, while the Cal women also came in sixth with 44.50 points. Martin Maric took top honors in the discus with a mark of 196-00 (59.75m). He also qualified in the javelin. Katie Morgan posted the current school record with a mark of 13-11.75 (4.26m) and placed second overall. Cherrelle Garrett, Ryan Young and Jake Hanson were among the other automatic qualifiers for NCAAs.

In the NCAA rankings
The Bears in the NCAA's top 10 are Michael Coe, who is ranked No. 6 in the 1500 based on his mile time (3:56.18), while junior Ryan Young is fourth in the javelin (250-10, 76.45m), senior Martin Maric is No. 4 in the discus 198-6 (60.52m) and senior Jake Hanson is No. 10 in the 400-meter hurldes (50.32). On the women's side, senior Inika McPherson is No. 8 in the high jump (6-0, 1.83m), Kimyon Broom is No. 5 in the 100-meter hurdles (13.02) and Katie Morgan is No. 10 in the pole vault (4.22m).

NCAA Regional Qualifiers
Cal boasts 37 NCAA regional qualifiers - 16 on the women's team and 21 on the men's team. The regional qualifiers are - Brook Turner (400), Kandi Bonty (400), Cherrelle Garret (100, 200), Debra Maier (5000), the women's 4x100 and 4x400, Allison Stokke (Pole Vault), Inika McPherson (High Jump), Kristen Meister (High Jump), Artensia Young (Triple Jump), Tracey Stewart (Triple Jump), Katie Morgan (Pole Vault), Evelyn Smith (400-H), Cyrena Giordano (Pole Vault), Kimyon Broom (100-meter hurdles), Kellan Patterson (100), Nick Porter (100), Michael Coe (mile, 1500), the men's 4x100, Jordan Paul (110-H), Jake Hanson (400-H), Francis Gadayan (800), Sebastian Sam (800), Yosef Ghebray (1500, 5000, 10,000), Eric Lee (1500), Kari Karlsson (5000), Sean Carey (800), Martin Maric (Discus, Javelin), Patrick Kowalsky (Shot Put), Ryan Shuler (Pole Vault), Ryan Young (Javelin) and Kyle Mills-Bunje was a provisional qualifier in the decathlon.
