Track Earns Seven Pac-10 All-Academic First Team Selections

Walnut Creek, Calif. – The Oregon State track team led the Pac-10 Conference with seven All-Academic First Team selections, announced Wednesday by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen. Overall Oregon State landed 10 on teams.
The Beavers boasted two runners with perfect 4.00 GPAs, while the other five had at least a 3.84 GPA.
The first team honors for graduate student Michelle Childs (Fenelong Falls, Ontario), juniors Krista Stangel (Enterprise, Ore.) and Lorene Young (Klamath Falls, Ore.), sophomores Marsha Lampi (Portland, Ore.) and Hannah Soza Hodgkinson (Forest Ranch, Calif.) and redshirt freshman Casey Masterson (Eugene, Ore.) mark the first time each has been named to the top team.
Sophomore Hayley Oveson (La Grande, Ore.), an industrial engineering major, tallied her second first team accolades.
Three runners were named to the honorable mention squad. Senior Holly Thomson (Eugene, Ore.) wraps up her career with three All-Academic honorable mention honors. Sophomore Abby Chesimet (Astoria, Ore.) earned her second career honorable mention honor, while sophomore Jennifer Macias (Hermiston, Ore.) chalks up her first recognition.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and either be a starter or significant contributor.
