Wildcat Threesome Named All-America

May 27, 2009

OKLAHOMA CITY--Arizona's Brittany Lastrapes, Stacie Chambers and Brittany Lastrapes were named All-Americans today by Louisville Slugger and the National Fastpitch Coaches Associaiton.

They give Arizona head coach Mike Candrea a staggering 82 of the 83 All-America honors earned by UA softball players since 1984. He's now had 37 individuals earn NFCA All-America honors.

Sophomore outfielder Lastrapes was a first-team selection, repeating after last year's citation for third-team honors. Senior third baseman Leles and junior catcher Chambers earned third-team honors, their first NFCA honors.

The Cats had three or more picks for the 17th year under Candrea, who has coached an All-American every year since his third season in 1988.

All three are among national leaders entering Arizona's participation in a 21st WOmen's College World Series this week, with Lastrapes hitting .483, and Chambers the nation's top home run and RBI leader with 31 and 96. Leles has 23 home runs and 64 RBI.
