Incoming Freshman Adam Jahn Named Gatorade California Boy's Soccer Player Of The Year
May 28, 2009
Stanford incoming freshman Adam Jahn has been named the California Gatorade Boy's Soccer Player of the Year. The award is the most prestigious given to high school seniors and makes Jahn eligible for the national Gatorade Player of the Year award. This is the second consecutive season in which Jahn has won the award.
The Gatorade Player of the Year program annually recognizes one award-winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states. The state players of the year are selected on the basis of outstanding athletic excellence accompanied by high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
Jahn completed his senior season at Jesuit High School in Sacramento, where he led the Marauders with 17 goals and 15 assists to complete a 27-1-1 record. Jahn is also a member of the under-18 U.S. national team and maintained a 4.0 GPA at Jesuit.
Jahn is a key member of the nationally-heralded recruiting class that will be attending classes at Stanford come the fall of 2009. Soccer America ranked the class complied by head coach Bret Simon and his staff as the No. 4 class in the nation.
In addition to Jahn, TopDrawerSoccer.com's top ranked recruit, Dersu Abolfathi, is set to join the Cardinal after spending the last year and a half with the U-18 academy of the MLS club Los Angeles Galaxy. Those players are expected to immediately contribute to the Stanford attack.
Additionally, midfielder/forward Eric Anderson, defender Hunter Gorskie, and goalkeepers Jason Dodson and Galen Perkins will represent the Stanford class of 2013.
'I'm thrilled at the group we've been able to assemble,' Simon said. 'We've been able to address our pressing needs, and particularly build a quality attacking base for the future.'
The class is among three top-five recruiting classes in the Pac-10, according to Soccer America. UCLA, ranked No. 3 and California, ranked No. 5, also are in the top five.
