Rosario & Taylor Qualify For NCAA Championships
May 29, 2009
Rosario finished fifth in the long jump to automatically qualify for the National meet, posting a mark of 24-8.25 for the fifth and final automatic spot to Nationals. He was also the only freshman to finish in the top-five in the event. Taylor finished fifth in the shot put with a big season-best toss of 59-8.25 to automatically qualify for Nationals as he finished fifth in the event.
Also on Friday, sophomore Cory Primm ran a season-best 1:48.59 in the 800m for the fourth-fastest time of the day as he will run for a spot at Nationals on Saturday. Senior Elijah Wells also qualified for an event final as he was the eighth qualifier into the 400m final with a time of 47.96.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Jamal Alston, Karlton Rolle, Stan Griffin and Brandon Smith had a disappointing day in Eugene as Smith suffered a hamstring injury on the anchor leg, causing the Bruins to finish ninth overall (41.44). However, there is still a chance the foursome can earn an at-large berth to Nationals.
Sophomore Taylor Hobson tied for seventh in the high jump (6-8.75) and was seventh in the long jump (24-5.50), but could earn at-large bids in both events. He is currently tied for ninth in the NCAA in the high jump (7-1) and is 27th in the long jump (25-2.50).
